Nottingham Forest submit planning application for City Ground redevelopment

5th January 2026

Nottingham Forest has confirmed that planning applications for redevelopment of the City Ground have been submitted, which will see the capacity of the ground rise to over 50,000.

The stadium, built in 1898, will receive a significant amount of investment from the clubs owner, Evangelos Marinakis, with an additional 20,000 seats being added to the home of the Nottingham based club.

An announcement by Forest stated: “The Club is grateful for the positive public engagement and overwhelming support shown for our proposals ahead of the planning submission. We would also like to thank to our key partners, Gleeds, KSS Design Group, Buro Happold, and Savills for their support to date.

We look forward to working with the Mayor of the East Midlands, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, as well as our supporters and the wider community, to achieve a successful outcome in the near future.”

This latest update comes after plans to demolish and re-build the existing Peter Taylor Stand were given approval in June 2025, adding 5,000 seats to the existing total of 30,000.
The redevelopment will be an integral part of the economic growth of the city and the wider region.
