Eredivisie Football League Leverages TRACAB Tracking Data for In-Depth Analysis of Player and Team Performance

ChyronHego has announced its continued partnership with the Dutch Eredivisie in supplying its world leading sports technologies for the new 2020/21 season. This builds upon two years of successful delivery in providing its TRACAB optical tracking system to the top football league in the Netherlands.

Since 2018, the eighteen stadiums of all 18 Dutch Eredivisie clubs have been equipped with the TRACAB computer vision cameras, which use advanced AI and machine learning techniques to capture every movement on the field of play. An average of 25 positions are recorded every second for all players and the ball, which results in more than 3.5 million data points per match.

“The Eredivisie is among many top leagues that now rely on TRACAB data to better analyze, understand, and illustrate player and team performance,” said Ian Wray, senior sales director at ChyronHego. “It’s exciting to see how the information captured from tracking data is helping to reveal aspects of play that can make the crucial difference and help clubs to learn from their shortcomings and build upon their strengths — ultimately giving fans more exciting and competitive matches. We are also happy to continue supporting Fox Sports in powering their VR application for fan engagement. This relies upon the unique ability of our TRACAB optical tracking system to deliver its data in mere milliseconds, something that is unmatched in the industry and is powering a growing range of other live applications in media and entertainment globally.”

All the collected tracking data — such as physical, positional, and tactical data — enables a wide range of applications to enhance fan engagement, as well as drive a brand-new data analysis platform, provided by SciSports. This wealth of data gives coaches, technical directors, and video analysts a single platform and interface for monitoring and analysis. This enables them to evaluate more effectively their own team’s performance, to compare against other teams, as well as identify areas for tactical improvement.

In addition, ChyronHego is providing Eredivisie clubs with its acclaimed video analysis and presentation tool, Coach Paint, which has become the standard across much of world football. This powerful software enables high-quality graphics visualizations to be very quickly illustrated on top of match videos, helping coaching staff to explain more easily in a visual manner the important aspects of a game. This helps the team as a whole, as well as individual players, to learn more effectively and improve their tactical awareness and skills.

Daktronics Brings Control Solution Upgrade to Alerus Center

Alerus Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota, partnered with Daktronics of Brookings, South Dakota, to integrate their entire venue and network of LED displays and LCDs into one easy-to-use control solution this past winter.

The hybrid facility, operated by Spectra, hosts hundreds of sporting, hospitality and conference events per year. The Spectra operations team prepares the building for those events including the University of North Dakota football, conventions, weddings and meetings multiple times per week. The operations team was looking for a digital signage partner that could entertain concert and sporting event attendees, but also quickly be reconfigured to inform hospitality and conference attendees.

Additionally, Spectra was searching for a solution for internal small-format LCDs all the way up to large-format roadside billboards. The signage and software solution provided by Daktronics features 12 LED displays and multiple LCDs located in admin areas, ballroom entrances, box office windows, meeting room entrances, common spaces and externally.

“Our staff appreciates the ability to provide wayfinding and important information to our patrons – no matter what event they are attending,” said Kaitlyn Spinney, director of conference sales and marketing at Alerus Center. “With multiple events happening at the same time most days, it is great to have an easy-to-use platform to share this data. Daktronics was able to integrate into our event scheduling software to pull data automatically – saving our staff hundreds of hours each year.”

In addition to providing new displays, Daktronics provided a comprehensive control solution for existing legacy displays. Daktronics installed Venus Control Suite at Alerus Center to connect the previously existing displays with the upgraded marquee and new concourse signage. The system pulls data from the venue’s scheduling system to share with viewers as it assists them with wayfinding and knowing what is taking place in meeting rooms and ballrooms.

Alerus Center has multiple functional groups within the facility with different, unique needs. The outdoor marquee features advertising, the internal LCDs feature internal messaging for wayfinding and the LED displays feature live event messaging. All these specific needs are coordinated with Daktronics Venus Control Suite. The system can also create a moment of exclusivity with the same content on all the digital screens throughout the venue.

“The versatility of this system really can’t be overstated,” said Seth Koch, Daktronics sales engineer. “Third-party advertising can be sold on indoor LCDs and LED displays as a bonus for the venue and their customers. The same system can also be used to publish data-driven content to the LCDs in the concourse and event spaces. The effeminacies gained from them multiply operations team by using one control system for all the digital media on the property is a game-changer.”

Daktronics has integrated with Ungerboeck, an event and resource management system, to help organize information and resources for multi-use facilities.

“Our Venus system can ingest the Ungerboeck data in real-time to publish that information to those displays at meeting rooms and ballrooms,” said Seth. “This ensures the information in front of those doors is always up to date and accurate. Being able to inform the guest with real-time information and promotions allows for a better overall experience throughout the entire building, from street to seat.”

Now Shipping: Outline Stadia 28

Outline has revealed the immediate availability of the new Stadia 28 constant curvature array designed for outdoor applications, which was launched during the 2020 edition of ISE.

Featuring an excellent performance:price ratio, Stadia 28 is a medium-throw system for permanent outdoor installations, ideal for sound reinforcement in stadiums, theme parks, leisure facilities, tourist attractions and public spaces.

Its strong point is its weight:power ratio, being a single enclosure, weighing just 21 kg (46.2 lb), but able to reach 139 dB SPL, by means of two 8” mid-woofers and a compression driver with a 3” diaphragm – all in neodymium. The system operates in bi-amp format.

The dispersion angle of 90° by 22.5° degrees enables, for example, to form horizontal or vertical arrays with no less than 135° by 90° using just 6 cabinets, which means guaranteeing coverage in any context, as well as remarkable versatility.

Moreover, Stadia 28 hardware is designed for safe long-lasting installation: the 10 mounting points in extremely light top-grade anodised ‘Ergal’ are fixed to the internal load-bearing structure, manufactured entirely in stainless steel.

A transparent Outline Stadia 28 V-Array.

IP55 protection rating is ensured by a 3-layer coating in elastoplastic material (‘OutSIDE Coating Technology’ – Outline proprietary technology) along with a series of sophisticated ideas introduced in Outline’s manufacturing process.

Outline Senior Loudspeaker System Designer, Francesco Simeoni commented: “The lines of the cabinet, combined with the waveguide designed and optimised specifically for this type of application thanks to the use of simulation software of the finished elements, enable to create real ‘sectors’ of acoustic projection that can be configured with extreme flexibility, thus meeting the coverage requirements of any kind of venue.”

Francesco explained the effort that was taken with the design of the cabinets – with material such as Ergal, stainless steel, compound polyurea coating, anti-UV treatment, lines and outlets for the run-off of water and many other construction details – and with the choice of the components, focussed on the water/weather-proof characteristics “to ensure the system remains fully operational through time and in any situation, even under severe conditions,” he added. “In the majority of standard applications, the internal mechanical load-bearing structure enables the installation of arrays without any expensive complex external mechanical structures being required.”

NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith Announces 2021 NAB Show Rescheduled for October

National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) President and CEO Gordon Smith has issued the following letter to the NAB Show community regarding plans for the 2021 NAB Show:

"Dear NAB Show community,

I hope that you and your loved ones are well and staying safe. Although we truly miss seeing you in person, it has been fantastic to observe the industry come together in many ways to work through these challenging times, and it has been our pleasure to do our part to create connections via our new digital initiatives.

As we look ahead to 2021 and beyond, our top priority is to deliver a successful NAB Show. We recognize the vital role NAB Show plays as a driver of innovation and an economic engine for the global media and entertainment industry. With that in mind, it is critical we act on your behalf and in a way that will best serve the long-term interests of the industry. We have worked diligently over the last few weeks and months monitoring a range of variables, including health and safety concerns, economic indicators, industry developments and travel restrictions, to gain an understanding of overall trends and future conditions for holding a major event in 2021. We have also reached out extensively to the show community to collect feedback.

Through all of this we have witnessed growing concern and uncertainty over what the next six months will bring; enough that there appears to be a good deal of reluctance around participating in large events in the first half of next year. The pandemic remains a significant threat and the evidence suggests it will be well into next year before it could be under control in the U.S. We also have our own concerns around being able to deliver the type of event in April that will not only drive results, but one that can be produced safely for all involved and without significant limitations on the experience.

Taking all of this into account and in the interest of supporting the business, health and safety concerns of our show community we have decided to move the 2021 NAB Show, previously scheduled for April 11–14, to October 9–13, 2021 in Las Vegas.

With any difficult decision, there are trade-offs. Moving NAB Show to October means we are considering alternative 2021 dates for NAB Show New York, held annually in October. On the plus side, the 2021 Radio Show will co-locate with NAB Show in Las Vegas as will NAB’s Sales and Management Television Exchange; and there is opportunity to add additional partner events. Beyond this, we have done our best to avoid direct conflicts with other domestic and international events, and have reached out to allied organizations and partners to both share our thinking in advance and to offer to work collaboratively toward turning this into an opportunity for all.

With a new date set for the 2021 NAB Show we are looking at the entirety of the calendar next year with fresh eyes. We plan to continue bringing the industry together in a number of ways. In the short-term, we are excited about the online events planned for next month – the Radio Show (October 5–9) and NAB’s Sales and Management Television Exchange (October 14–15). These signature events, combined with our virtual NAB Show New York (October 19–29), offer dynamic content and engagement opportunities all month long to bring the industry together to restart, reengage and refocus.

We are also committed to creating new and meaningful experiences to engage and connect with you throughout the year on NAB Amplify. This dynamic, year-round digital platform will extend the impact of NAB Show throughout the year by providing opportunities for networking, discovery and education.

Since the early stages of the current global crisis, we have done our best to balance our decision-making with the long-term interest of NAB members and the wider media and entertainment industry. We have not made this decision lightly and have relied on a great deal of feedback from the NAB Show community. We are grateful to our stakeholders and partners for engaging with us and supporting our decision. Amidst all of this, we have been reminded of what a great industry we serve. As always, we look forward to working with you to provide vital events and services to support these efforts, and to invigorate and propel the industry forward."

WiZink Center

Built in 1960, the WiZink Center – originally named Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid - is an indoor sporting arena located in the Spanish capital of Madrid. The former building was destroyed by a fire in 2001, which led to a new, modern venue, designed by architects, Enrique Hermoso and Paloma Huidobro, which was built between 2002 and 2005.

Since then, WiZink Arena has been able to offer a variable capacity depending on the sport or event, with 10,000 - with 200-metre track and six lanes - for athletics, 14,000 for handball, 15,000 for basketball games and, finally, 15,500, with a standing public ramp, for concerts.

Ulsan Complex Stadium Elevates Fan Experience with Cutting-Edge Systems from HARMAN Professional Solutions

Adding world-class sound and enhancing the fan experience, the Ulsan Sports Complex hired audio integrators TechDataPS and Daeseong Media to upgrade the sound system in its Ulsan Complex Stadium with a state-the-art, dynamic HARMAN Professional audio solution.

Built in 1970, the Ulsan Sports Complex includes Ulsan Complex Stadium, which was the original home of Ulsan Hyundai FC and features a capacity of 19,471. Today, the stadium is home to Ulsan Citizen FC, which competes in Korea’s K4 professional soccer league. Located between the Yaksacheon and Dongcheon rivers, Ulsan Sports Complex also includes an auxiliary stadium, the Dongcheon Gymnasium, Dongcheon National Sports Center, a basketball court, foot volleyball court, futsal court as well as a youth concert hall. To bring exceptional sound to sporting events and create an entertaining environment for fans, TechDataPS and Daeseong Media equipped Ulsan Complex Stadium with a cutting-edge HARMAN Professional audio solution that includes JBL Professional loudspeakers, Crown amplification, Soundcraft mixers and BSS signal processors.

“The client required a system that could deliver reliable, highly articulate sound output. It was also essential that the system maximize sound coverage across the venue, keeping in mind the close proximity of residential buildings,” said a spokesperson for TechDataPS. “Considering multiple factors including safety, durability and the varying acoustic demands of the venue, we zeroed in upon JBL VTX A-Series loudspeakers.”

Providing pristine sound throughout the stadium, TechDataPS selected JBL VTX A8 dual 8” compact line array loudspeakers for their excellent audio quality and 110º dispersion. The system also includes an array of JBL all-weather loudspeakers, including AW295, AWC595, AWC129 and AWC82 speakers, which deliver exceptional acoustics and feature weather-resistant enclosures. TechDataPS also installed 305P MkII powered studio monitors, which feature JBLs’ patented Waveguide Technology and allow the stadium’s audio engineers to reference the mix accurately to make sure it will translate well over the loudspeakers.

To ensure optimum audio performance, the system includes BSS BLU-DA and BLU-100 signal processors with BLU Link, while Crown I-Tech 4x3500HD, DCi 4|600N and DCi 4|300N amplifiers power the solution. Further adding to the system’s excellent audio output, Soundcraft Vi2000, Si Performer 1 and Signature 12 mixing consoles offer unparalleled mixing capabilities with professional, studio-quality sound.

“We were looking at a complete renewal of the existing sound setup. Apart from delivering world-class performance, the setup had to meet great standards of reliability, durability and safety. The latter two were especially important factors because of the windy conditions prevalent in Ulsan,” said a spokesperson for Ulsan Complex Stadium. “We are extremely satisfied with the incredible solutions that TechDataPS and Daeseong Media provided.”

"The Ulsan Complex Stadium called for audio solutions that could address a complex set of requirements. Not only was there a requirement for a world-class sound system, but also designs and setups that were executed with great prudence," said Ramesh Jayaraman, VP & GM, HARMAN Professional Solutions, APAC. "We would like to thank our partner TechDataPS Co., Ltd., for delivering a solution that admirably met the multi-faceted challenges.”
