Udinese Calcio Aims to Transform Bluenergy Stadium into Premier Multifunctional Venue

Bluenergy Stadium is in the spotlight in Italy with the return of concerts and Rugby and Football national teams to one the most sustainable stadiums in the country. As a pivotal landmark, not just locally but nationally and internationally, the Udinese stadium captures widespread interest across Udine and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, thanks to its array of hosted and planned major events.

Highlights include the triumphant return of concerts last week, after more than a decade, featuring Negramaro and blues legend Zucchero. These exclusive events drew tens of thousands, underscoring Udine and Bluenergy Stadium as prime venues for grand spectacles.

Functioning as an incubator for diverse projects, the stadium enhances regional prestige year-round with meetings, gatherings, and conventions. Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani hailed it as "the Bernabeu of the Northeast" during his visit for the Giro d’Italia stage presentation in May.

Looking ahead, a thrilling autumn awaits with significant events lined up. The Bluenergy Stadium eagerly anticipates the return of Italy's national rugby team, marking their first appearance at the venue since 2009. This agreement with Udinese Calcio and FIR promises annual matches for three years, beginning with Argentina in this November's Autumn Nations Series.

Moreover, football returns in full force as the Azzurri, led by coach Luciano Spalletti, grace the pitch after a five-year hiatus, scheduled for October's UEFA Nations League.

All these endeavors champion sustainability, both socially and environmentally, exemplified by the upcoming solar park installation on the stadium’s roof. With over 2400 photovoltaic panels, Bluenergy Stadium is poised to become Italy's first carbon-neutral facility, enhancing its international stature and local pride.

Unilumin Group: Lighting Up European Sports Arenas with Cutting-Edge LED Displays

As the 33rd Summer Olympic Games approach in the summer of 2024, Europe is gearing up for this monumental international sporting event. The anticipation is palpable as locals eagerly await to witness the excitement and grandeur of the competitions. Integral to these thrilling events are the professional LED displays that bring them to life. Unilumin Group, The LED Applications Pioneer, has been instrumental in enhancing numerous European sports events with its state-of-the-art LED sports products, delivering unparalleled visual experiences to audiences.

One notable example is Hungary’s Puskás Aréna, which features 225 square meters of UsportX perimeter screens and 461 square meters of Ustorm scoreboards. Optimal Audio’s First Arena Install is Wizards’ Choice

Northside Wizards is a successful basketball team based in Brisbane which runs sections for men, women, and juniors. Competing in the NBL1 Central, Australia’s second division basketball league, the team’s home fixtures take place at the Northside Indoor Sports Centre in Zillmere, where the Wizards recently took steps to improve the game-day experience of fans by improving the audio provision on their main court.

The Wizards have been clients of Brisbane-based supplier Brisbane Sound Group (BSG) for more than twenty-five years, and consulted with the audio, visual and lighting specialists about the best way forward. With its vastly experienced sales, install and hire departments, BSG is a one-stop shop that can meet the audio needs of the widest possible range of settings. BSG Installation and Project Manager, Josiah Kerridge, took account of the venue and designed a system based on Optimal Audio commercial loudspeakers. He takes up the story:

“Following some discussion at games during 2023, the club asked us to propose a competitively priced system that would both enhance the game-day experience and be easy to operate. We’d recently been introduced to Optimal Audio by Audio Brands Australia and could see straight away that the Cuboid Series would be the perfect fit for what would be a fairly challenging brief.

“It’s quite a reverberant space with limited rigging positions at a height of around 10 metres above the court - we had to cover ground level seating as well as a single section of tiered seating. An average attendance for an NBL1 game in the court is more than a thousand fans. The Cuboid  loudspeakers fell within the budget, had the required SPL for the throw, and fitted the spec in terms of size and weight. Their multiple rigging points also allowed us plenty of flexibility.”

BSG installed a system comprising eight Cuboid 15 two-way full range passive 15” loudspeakers and two Sub 15 high-power sub-bass loudspeakers. The speakers fired outwards towards the seating areas around two centrally mounted subs. Josiah continues:

“Being such a reverberant space it was always going to be tricky to deploy a system that would be loud enough to be intelligible, but the Cuboid configuration did the job and the client is super happy. The system comfortably covers background music and game sound effects, while also delivering great clarity of speech over loud crowd noise.”

Northside Wizards’ CEO, Mark Wrobel, is also very pleased with the installation:

“The work that Brisbane Sound Group have completed with the sound upgrade at Northside Indoor Sports Centre has changed our lives. The ability to have crystal clear sound available at the touch of a button helps us provide a better environment for our members as well as enabling us to communicate clearly at domestic competitions and special events. The sound quality and clarity of speech provided by the Optimal Audio speakers is second to none and has made our venue a far more friendly space.”

Sydney Showground

Australia’s Sydney Showground was established in 1998 as a purpose-built home for major events as part of the multi-million dollar development leading up to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

The area has since evolved into a world-class facility, hosting nearly 150 national and international events annually. Among its diverse events are sporting events, music festivals, exhibitions, trade shows, and the iconic Sydney Royal Easter Show - the nation’s largest annual ticketed event.

Comprising various structures, including Giants Stadium, the Dome and Exhibition Complex, Charles Moses Stadium, Howie Complex, and the Sydney Royal Stables, Sydney Showground recently undertook a refurbishment of its AV system after 25 years of continuous operation.

To restore the system to its former glory, the venue turned to LEA Professional’s Connect Series amplifiers, with The P.A. People, a leading Australian integrator, enlisted to oversee the system overhaul.

BDP Pattern Completes Yas Marina Circuit Expansion

Yas Marina Circuit’s multipurpose venue, The Paddock Club, has benefitted from a significant expansion, thanks to a creative redesign by architects from BDP Pattern.

Completed ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit, the grand finale of the 2023 F1 Championship season, the Paddock Club has undergone a refurbishment and reorganisation of the building to create a better race day experience for the drivers and fans, alike.

A trackside extension enabled the winners’ podium to be relocated to a more prominent position overhanging the racetrack. The updated, modern podium stands out as a symbol of champions, enabling the winners of the Grand Prix to feel closer to fans and their pit crew, whilst giving the capacity crowd a better view of their heroes. This new podium features a unique 360o ‘Halo Screen’ floating above and a ribbon display which runs around the podium circumference. This, combined with additional lighting features, creates an iconic and unrivalled celebration experience.

New VIP suites, luxury hospitality seating terraces and an updated feature entrance deliver a world-class experience and bring fans closer into the action, while new office facilities ensure staff are close to the race-day events.

The expansion has also added a world first for a F1 racetrack - an innovative ‘cooldown room’, called the ‘podium club’ that gives fans unparalleled access to the drivers and allows guests to watch them relax after the race and before heading out for the trophy ceremony. The space can also be adapted to become a broadcast suite or used as a meeting place for tours and other events.

Luke Harrison, Architect Director at BDP Pattern, said: “This is a world first for motor racing. Thanks to this creative expansion, Yas Marina Circuit now provides an experience that no other racetrack in the world currently offers, bringing exclusive access to the drivers on race day whilst creating an immersive atmosphere for all F1 fans.

“Smart adaptation and intelligent use of existing space has allowed us to add areas that enhance the feeling of excitement for those in the Paddock Club, whilst ensuring functionality and coherence. It’s amazing what some clever design can do for a space like this. The drivers have benefitted from better facilities and the fans really feel like they are part of the race day activities.

“We have been inspired by local design elements throughout the emirate and have added our own modern and dynamic twist to the design of the Paddock Club. It all creates an incredible place that does justice to an iconic piece of architecture.”
